Peace

Posted: 01/21/09

These past few days I have been contemplating this word “peace”.  We hear it all the time, we just don’t seem to experience it much! We seemed overwhelmed with life, the anxiety of a career, the pressures of raising children, the financial crisis, paying bills, our retirements slipping away through the cracks of Wall Street. We hear of furloughs, job losses and recessions. There are wars around the world, terrorism threats ever present. By the world’s standards there isn’t much peace to be had. This last Sunday we looked at Colossians 1:21-23, a brief but powerful passage describing a path to that peace that the world cannot comprehend. It’s the gospel message of Jesus Christ! Jesus came to this world to die for you and for me so that we can be “holy, blameless and beyond reproach” and so that we may not be moved away from the hope of the gospel message. I know many of you are facing intense trials and hardships right now and it seems easy for someone, who may not be experiencing the same issues that you are, to tell you how to deal with your struggles. You are wise! You shouldn’t listen to what I have to say! Go back and read Colossians 1:21-23 and see what God has to say about having true peace in your life. It comes through Jesus Christ!

I hear from so many of you who are enjoying your Read Through the Bible plan. It was great in our staff prayer time this morning to look at Matthew 13:31-32 and read about the parable of the mustard seed. Sometimes faith starts as this tiny seed and blossoms into a beautiful plant that produces much fruit. If you’re behind don’t feel guilty. Here are two options for you. 1) Keep plowing through, miss a day, pick up there the next day and just finish later or 2) Just pick up where we are today and go back and fill in those days missed. Either way you can’t go wrong. Satan has a vested interest in seeing that you are not in the word! Remember that faith that started as a mustard seed, it will only grow larger and produce more fruit, peace being on of them, as you are in the word of God.

Blessing to you,

Pastor Jeremy

We are enjoying reading through, too! We have missed a few days, but just keep going on, not feeling guilty about it if we missed. We have read some awesome stories in the OT-ones you don’t always hear, or haven’t heard since jr. church!

Thanks, Jeremy-keep up the good work!

So good to be able to listen to your teaching and read your blog. Just keep sharing your joy and peace in Jesus and remember God is singing over you and the Saints there at Arcade.

Thanks for preaching/teaching the Word. There is no better text to base anything on, and especially to base a sermon on.
