I loved Pastor Tunnicliff’s message Sunday! The emphasis on being that “new creation” based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ was such a vivid reminder to me that don’t have to be held captive to the “old self”. God’s Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that when one is in Christ the old things have passed, gone, done away with (insert your own term here!) and that a new creation has been created. We are no longer enslaved to the old rebellious self, no longer in bondage to the past, no longer captive to habitual sin in our life. The reality is that we have been set free when we surrender our lives to Christ. However, so often we want that old self back. We say we don’t but our actions indicate other wise! If you see that old self creeping up out of the grave, stomp it down! It’s important to know that living in community with other believers will help you with this. Whether in a LIFEgroup, an Adult Bible Fellowship or a Spiritual Formation Group you are surrounded by those who love and care for you enough to ask “How are you doing?” “Everything ok?”. The “new creation” desperately needs support, encouragement and accountability.
God loves you enough to sacrifice His Son for you so that you can experience the true freedom that came through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Are you enjoying that freedom?
