Gatherings

Last Updated: 3/2/08

“What if you knew that by taking ten steps across a room and saying hello to another person, you could impact his or her eternity? It has nothing to do with methods and everything to do with taking a genuine interest in another human being.”

Beginning September 7th we will begin a four week all church emphasis entitled, “Walk Across the Room.” This series will focus on simple steps that all Christians can take to point people to a relationship with Jesus Christ. The evangelism model comes directly from Jesus’ life and will equip you to walk across the room and extend care, compassion , and inclusiveness to people who need a touch from God. This is lifestyle evangelism—relational evangelism, this is one life connecting with another, this is Jesus and his life in relationship with people.

New series begins July 13th..I Will Follow - Matthew 4:19
This series is focused on being an apprentice of Jesus; we have finished talking about the kingdom from the Sermon on the Mount now the next big question is who will choose to follow and what does following Jesus entail? Is following Jesus simply attending a Bible study weekly, attending a church gathering, and feeding a few hungry people, or is there more to it? In this series we will examine the cultural context and implications of choosing to follow a teacher and specifically the life as Jesus’ disciple. Ultimately it is our desire that the hearers of these messages would stand up and say “I will follow.”

NEW SERIES: LOVE…BY THIS ALL PEOPLE WILL KNOW THAT YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES
John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” ESV

Love is God—God is Love. This one word seems to harbor more potential than any other verb in the Holy Scriptures. From the beginning of Creation God’s intent was to love man and to be loved by man. Throughout history God paints a picture of love that is more attractive than any claim or promise. This love is illustrated through His Son Jesus who came in love to be love to our world connecting man with God the Father. The love that Jesus revealed to the world is the pinnacle of Christian relationships. Just as Jesus has loved us we are commanded to love one another, especially those of faith. It is through this love the unbelieving world will come to recognize the truths of Jesus and come to accept Him as God. We will walk through the characteristics of love that Jesus revealed to the world and seek to imitate that love in our relationships within the family of God.

Beginning February 24th. JESUS SPEAKS. One of the most famous accounts of Jesus’ speaking is found in the book of Matthew and has been labeled The Sermon on the Mount. Within this string of words are answers to life, relationships, decision-making, conflict resolution, integrity, and living life as God intended. What does it really mean to follow Jesus? This series will be an expository walk through Matthew chapters 5, 6, & 7, focusing on these practical words of Jesus. We will uncover the lifestyle Jesus speaks about and focus on tangible application to these truths today.

We begin a new Sermon Series entitled, “HeartSupport”.
We are partnering with a national ministry that offers hope and support to people
dealing with real life issues and struggles. Over the five week series we will be talking
about real struggles very present inside and outside the walls of the church. These issues
are: Depression, Addiction, Self-injury, Suicide and Eating Disorders. Many people in the
church are haunted by these realities and are looking for some hope and support. In this
series we will look at these struggles in the light of a Father God who desires to free and
love us. Special guest speakers will include: Jon Bell and Craig Gross.

SexGodLove: for many this may be a difficult combination. For so many people, sex and love has been used to abuse and shame while God seems nowhere to be found. In this series we will discuss the difficulty of the correlation. We will explore the abuse and addiction associated with sex and love; two things God created for his purposes and for the enjoyment and satisfaction of his creation. What have we done with God’s beautiful creation? May we rediscover God’s true intention of SexGodLove.

September 23rd: Sex God Love: Dignity
The key to this talk is that people are people first; made in the image of God, to be treated with dignity and respect.

September 30th: Sex God Love - Transformation (Donny Pauling, ex-porn producer)
Feeding and contributing to addiction; the pathway to freedom, TRANSFORMATION.

October 7th: Sex God Love - Pornography
The world of pornography continues to grow and invade homes across the world; we must be educated and equipped to protect ourselves and others from this harmful obsession.

October 14th: Sex God Love - Correlation (Jason Harper, Capital Christian Center)
The biblical correlation between sex, God, and love.

PAST SERIES

Knowing, Loving, Serving — Spiritual Formation

It is vitally important at Arcade that we have a clear process of spiritual formation. How are we going to move someone from beginning stages to maturity in relationship with Christ? As a church we escort people through a simple process of spiritual formation.

This process has three central aspects. The three aspects are described by the words “know”, “love”, and “serve”. These three words describe the holistic life of a Christ-follower; none of the focuses is more important than the other; they are made to work in partnership with each other. If someone were to live their life focused on knowing, loving, and serving, than we believe the Scriptures teach a growth towards maturity.

This series will explore the depths of what it looks like in the Scriptures to grow towards maturity in Christ. Without spiritual formation, connection with God and others is impossible. Join us in this in-depth discovery of spiritual growth and movement.

Richard Devylder is the Deputy Director of the Department of Rehabilitation. His life is an incredible story of the power of God and the power of positive thinking. Richard is unlike many people I know, as he has used his disability, no arms and no legs, to impact and change the lives of others. Richard will be sharing his story of overcoming the odds and the prejudice of this world to be a person of great impact.

The Lord’s Prayer will unlock the mysteries of who God is and what principles engulf connecting with him in prayer.

What if prayer radically changed your life? Would you do it more? Jesus teaches us how to pray in the book of Matthew. This prayer is created to stir within us a crisis of belief. The Lord’s Prayer confronts the reality of God the Father, his will, our needs, our relationships, and our dependence on him to rescue us from the evil of the world.

Identity: Becoming What God Intended

Do you ever feel rejected by God?
When bad things happen do you ever find yourself wondering why God is doing this to you?
Do you feel there are times when God is more likely to accept and love you than others?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it is likely you have an improper view of God. Over the next 12 weeks we will discover the depth of God’s perfect love and his unconditional acceptance. It is on this basis that we will discover our true identity and worth, which leads to a life of grateful response to God.
